I can help you setup your own Photography space
Space, Gear and Workflow
Do you want to improve your own photography and setup a regular space to shoot within your home, office or studio? I’m here to help.
With over 10 years experience working on location I can advise on:
which room and windows offer the best light
how much floor space you require
what equipment will work for your budget
how to optimise your workflow using tethered shooting and capture software like Adobe Lightroom or Capture One Pro
how to manage your images, backup your files and plan your shoots in an efficient way
Scroll down for some case studies with Sue Pryke, Botanique Workshop and Conscious with Coffee.
Sue Pryke
I’ve been working with Sue for almost 10 years, she was one of my first clients. Her ceramics are renowned for their elegance and simplicity of form. Her team works from a large workshop space in Leicestershire which is divided into a making space to the rear and a storage, commerce and office space in the front.
On brighter days they might use natural light, but sometimes you want to shoot when it’s dark and cloudy! She wanted to purchase her own gear which would enable her team to shoot new ceramics for her online shop and small lifestyle groupings for social media. I advised on an LED light panel as this offers a quality of light similar to a large window.
See images below to show the space and setups.
Equipment used: Nanlite LED panel, Area 51 tether cable, Manfrotto tripod, macbook pro with Capture One Pro software. Plus various clamps, white and black foamboard, white muslin for diffusion and a sturdy wooden sheet + legs.
“Yeshen has been tremendously supportive in providing content on his website to equip me with the skills necessary to take studio and product shots myself. The step by step guides offer fundamental training in clear and concise language and visuals which are easy to follow. Yeshen also provides recommendations and links to photography equipment, backdrops and lighting which I’ve found valuable pieces of kit. He’s always happy to offer additional support, either 1:1 in person or online to support taking better photos”.

Conscious with Coffee
I came across Culainn and Lea at our local farmer’s market and became a regular visitor due to their fantastic coffee! They focus on building long-term relationships with each of their producing partners directly in South America, and developing a really strong supply chain.
We often chatted about their products and decided to work together at their roasting location in North London. They needed a simple setup that would work for product shots of their coffee packaging and explainer/demo videos where they would talk to camera. I advised on which equipment to puchase in advance of my visit which included a Nanlite LED panel, a few stands, background paper in white and some fold away table legs + table top from Ikea A few more accessories like clamps and foam boards where purchased from a local hardware store.
I then spent 4 hours with them showing how to setup the gear and connect a laptop to shoot ‘tethered’ and use the Adobe Lightroom software for an efficient workflow.
“When it came to product photography we didn’t know where to start. Yeshen gave us a really helpful overview of the equipment we needed (within our budget), where to buy it and how to set it up. We then spent a morning with Yeshen in our studio, where he helped us set up our equipment, guided us though using our camera, and took our initial product shots. Working with Yeshen was a very well rounded and useful experience, which I would absolutely recommend to anyone looking to get started with product photography.”
