Studio visit: Anne Lander

I was fortunate to be introduced to the weaver Anne Lander through a client. One beautiful Summer day in 2015 I drove down to Mere in Wiltshire and spent the afternoon with Anne in her home, which was like a living museum.

The front room contained her loom and another smaller room was filled with images about the history of growing flax and spinning.

In the loft she had laid out a display of wool samples, collected from all over the country, and an amazing multicoloured storage shelf with a rainbow of wool!

I shot a few portraits on Anne at her loom and outside in the lovely garden. It was a really special day, I shall never forget it.

My plan with this series was quite ambitious, to visit ‘100 Makers’ around the UK. The idea was that each maker would recommend the next one to visit (Anne did actually mention a woodturner who lived nearby). Although I only did few shoots, the project may well come to fruition if I can secure some sponsorship.

The West Wiltshire Community Newsletter contains some memories of Anne following her funeral.
