Studio closing June 2.

After almost 3 years at Hackney Downs Studios I will be leaving at the beginning of June.

I’ve worked from various home studios since starting my photography business in 2012, first in Dalston for 18 months and then in Thornhill Square for 6 years. I always dreamed of finding a ‘proper’ studio.

Finding this space and fitting it out was a great experience. When I first walked in I felt it right away, the light and proportions were ideal and it was both quiet and secure - the perfect studio!

The move happened about 6 months after my father passed away and we had spent many months dealing with his house and shop contents in Amsterdam, so although we were used to moving and packing, that whole Summer is a blur to me.

We also moved house shortly after, leaving the beautiful Thornhill square flat behind but finding a wonderful apartment near Highbury Corner and finally separating the studio from our home. The new studio was by far the most impressive space I saw. Anyone who has viewed studios around London know the range of quaoity on offer. You get very rough, cold and poorly decorated spaces right up to the latest high spec modern units but they are rarely worth the asking price.

This space has access door, while one remained closed, the second led to a shared kitchen and the third (which became the main entrance) opened through a lovely storage area.

Working here has really transformed my photography, not just in terms of the scale at which we could shoot but the professional nature of the space, it just felt better welcoming clients here. My regular stylists Emma and Jess have been involved throughout working with clients like Vintage/Puffin, Faber, Laboratory Perfumes, Victoria Eggs, Noodoll, Cardology and Not Just a Shop.

I have loved the consistency I have been able to achieve here on our regular shoots with long term clients such as Wrap, Richard McVetis, Type One Magazine, Design Anthology, Botanique Workshop, Beards and Dasies and Exton park Wine.

One of the biggest revelations here has been the 24/7 reception and post room which has been incredibly useful for deliveries - this will be the service I miss the most. It’s been wonderful to get to know many of the other residents and I have appreciated the support of the team at HDS.

However, in the last 12 months due to many factors it has become financially unsustainable to keep the space so I will be working from hired studios, houses and on location at client’s spaces from June onwards.

The last free dates are in late May and are going fast. We also have a fantastic location shoot planned for June 10-15.

Please get in touch asap to secure a spot during the Spring before we leave.
