Bespoke Mosaic in Kensington
When clients are commissioned to produce a bespoke piece of work in situ, documenting it well can be challenging. Often timescales are tight and access may not be easy. Some clients do not want to share their private spaces but capturing the finished work through photography and video is crucial in order to build interest for future commissions.
In this case mosaic artist Giulia Manzoni was asked to create a bespoke mosaic floor in a bathroom/shower within a townhouse in London’s Kensington. Shooting bathrooms is always tricky as they are usually small, sometimes dimly lit and often close to stairs/small hallway areas. However in this case we were able to shoot down from stairway (correcting the perspective afterwards in my editing software) and utilise the light from an east-facing window and small skylight in the bathroom itself.
“The concept behind this bespoke mosaic design was to create a harmonious, sophisticated, and calming space — a sanctuary dedicated to self-care and relaxation. The focal point of the bathroom and walk-in shower floor is a series of concentric circles, reminiscent of ripples formed by droplets of water.
The subtle contrast between the White Carrara and Bardiglietto marbles enhances the natural brightness of the room, contributing to a serene and elegant atmosphere.”
